Travelling with Your Dog
Your emotional attachment to your dog may reflect how well you truly care for it. At times when you have to go away, you may find yourself missing your loyal companion. You need not worry about having to travel alone because of the many trends in travel and tourism now. You can actually bring your pet with you for as long as you meet the requirements set forth by the airlines and the country that you will be visiting.
Veterinary clearance is the first requirement that you have to comply. A licensed veterinarian should assess your dog and evaluate if it is suitable for travel. Your dog must have complete shots of vaccinations, especially those against rabies and kennel cough. However, breeds with short muzzles such as Pugs and Shih Tzus may not be given clearance. Their short snouts may predispose them to respiratory distress during plane trips when there is an increase in pressure.
If your pet is not small enough to be given a seat next to you, the plane may require you to bring a sturdy pet crate where you dog can be temporarily kept. Make sure you provide your dog with adequate food and water. Avoid giving unnecessary medications before the trip unless prescribed by the veterinarian.
Airline companies ask for an additional processing fee to allow your pet to travel. The country that you will be travelling to may also require a certain amount of payment. In some countries, your dog has to undergo a few days of quarantine to assure that it is not a carrier of any communicable disease.
You can now enjoy the outside world with your companion. Make sure to bring a leash so that you can stroll around whilst enjoying the magnificent view and the splendid landmarks.
